I used the have the ultrawide monitor on a shelf in front of me, but I wanted it a bit closer and to be able to use the space below the monitor. So instead I used some scrap wood, a cheap VESA mount I had, and the brackets for the shelf to make it “float”.
Inter-Tech 4U-4416 server case
I was quite happy with the previous Inter-Tech case I got, so I decided to get another. This time I got a rack mountable storage case, with 16 hot swap bays, for my file server Zeta. More thoughts and photos!
I&S EYE-4808BK server case
I’ve used this case a lot over the years — I first got one back in 2011, for my first rack mountable server. At the most, I had four of these in my homelab rack. They were relatively cheap, and easy to get.
Over the years I’ve sold most of them off, replacing them with Inter-Tech 4U-4129-N and 4U-4416. And my desktop computer have moved out of the server rack and into a regular desktop case.
Inter-Tech 4U-4129-N server case
I recently got a new rack mountable case from Inter-Tech — it was surprisingly cheap 😃 This is going to be the new server case for my hypervisor Alpha. Here are my thoughts, and some photos.
Raspberry Pi with DS18B20 temperature sensors
I made a simple HAT (Hardware Attached on Top) for the Raspberry Pi to read multiple DS18B20 temperature sensors — it was surprisingly easy. I used the measured temperatures to control a fan using Home Assistant.
Kids alarm module, Raspberry Pi Zero, and MQTT
My twin boys are, like their dad, fascinated by switches and flashing lights. I needed an excuse to use the Raspberry Pi Zero in a project, so I built them a WiFi MQTT controlled alarm module. With a couple of switches, some panel indicators, a buzzer, and a blue LED strobe.
Altibox 6rd on OPNsense
Dropping the Altibox router/modem, and getting IPv6 using 6rd to work on OPNsense.

Ventilation and fume extraction rebuild
I rebuilt the exhaust ventilation late 2017, but shortly after — I did the homelab ventilation project and had to remove parts of the exhaust system because it was in the way of the new insulated ducts. Time to rebuilt it!
